Son of eminent SA history academics (as any Internet search will show ), Felix Laband has quickly become SA’s highest profile electronic producer. A master of manipulating African music and jazz samples into vast electronic soundscapes with quirky beats, Felix’s whimsical cinematic works are hotly in demand by cinema and commercial producers, with tracks licensed for synchronization in 7 territories.
‘Thin Shoes In June’, his debut album, was produced entirely on PC and released in March 2001. The beautiful, whimsical moods made Felix SA’s first ambient superstar. This was followed in April 2002 by the provocative ‘4/4 Down the Stairs’, featuring extravagant fold-out artwork and more than a hint at Felix’s roots in teen punk bands in the provocative, textured African electronica.
