émouvance

Emouvance, founded by Claude Tchamitchian, is a structure covering live music and the production of records on the label of the same name, with its work focused basically on improvised and traditional music. Improvised music is used here in its loosest and widest sense, which in artistic terms often means it falls well outside the jazz idiom. What counts first and foremost is a certain state of mind that everyone involved should have, requiring all the musicians to take a good, enquiring look at their practice and how they respond to it, and to come face to face with other music either from their own idiom or a different one, from right here or elsewhere. This is the spirit behind Emouvance's implication in production projects centred on musicians who also become long-term collaborators, thus creating a real community of people who think alike, members of the same artistic family whose functions combine not only original composition and performance but also their relaying and dissemination and the production of records. .
This is the case with Lousadzak, for example, whose adventure began in 1993 with a septet that became the Grand Lousadzak in 1998, then the Acoustic Lousadzak in 2001, and which is still continuing with the latest version, the New Lousadzak, who have given their first public performance at the Festival de Luz in July 2005

Since 2002, Emouvance is equipped with another tool vital to its specific conception of production and all this implies, in the form of an artistic agency, with Guillaume Pierrat in charge, to look after and follow through certain projects conceived and carried out by three artists - Claude Tchamitchian, Raymond Boni, Daunik Lazro - who have always accompanied (in every sense of the word) Emouvance in all its aspects and whose work has always been tied in with the story of this label.
As with all those working with Emouvance, the idea of production is a global one for these three musicians, so a record project is only one of the many facets involved. This explains why the actual record production is limited to two or three
new releases per year.
Ever since it was created in 1994, Emouvance has been developing its activity, with pride of place given to bringing the public into closer contact with improvised music and other forms of live music via production in the broadest sense of the term (records, first performances, new works, dissemination and communication of the works in question) - through pedagogic activities too (workshops, artists in residence offering teaching facilities), and support for amateur musicians.
